Calibrating Glovebox Sensors

The O₂ and H₂O sensors show you just how clean the atmosphere in the box really is. You can only trust the readings if the sensors are calibrated. We'll explain when and how to calibrate them.

In every glovebox, two sensors monitor the atmosphere: one for oxygen (O₂) and one for humidity (H₂O), both measured in ppm. These values form the basis of your work—but they are only as reliable as the calibration of the sensors.

Why Calibration Is Important

Sensors drift over time. An uncalibrated O₂ sensor may display values that are too low—leading you to believe you’re working under clean conditions, even though the actual contamination level is higher. Conversely, readings that are too high can trigger unnecessary regeneration cycles and waste gas. Regular calibration ensures that the readings match reality.

When is calibration due?

  • Regularly—usually once a year or every two years, depending on the system and requirements.
  • When readings are implausible—for example, if the display does not match the observed behavior of the box.
  • After a sensor replacement or major maintenance.

How calibration works

The sensors are adjusted against defined reference conditions, and the zero point or calibration curve is adjusted. Depending on the manufacturer and sensor type, this is done directly on the system. It is important that the operating conditions are correct at the same time—a leak-tight box (see leak test) and a functioning gas cleaning system.

Calibration as a Service

We calibrate O₂ and H₂O sensors across all manufacturers—either individually or as part of regular maintenance. Sensor calibration is part of our range of services and accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sensor Calibration: Frequently Asked Questions

How often do the sensors need to be calibrated?

Depending on the system and requirements, usually once a year or once every two years—and additionally if values are implausible or after a sensor replacement.

What happens if I don't calibrate?

The displayed O₂/H₂O values may differ from actual conditions. This could endanger your work or result in unnecessary regeneration cycles and gas consumption.

Will you handle the calibration?

Yes, for all manufacturers—either individually or as part of regular maintenance. Please tell us the manufacturer and model of your glove box.

Have the sensors calibrated?

We calibrate your O₂ and H₂O sensors so you can trust the readings again—regardless of the manufacturer.
