Decontaminate & Refurbish the Glovebox
Before changing materials, reselling, or repurposing a glovebox, it often needs to be thoroughly decontaminated. We’ll explain how proper decontamination is performed.
Over time, residues—whether chemical, biological, or particulate—accumulate in a glovebox. Anyone who wants to repurpose the box, sell it, or operate it with other materials needs a clean, documented starting point. That’s exactly what professional decontamination provides.
When Decontamination Is Recommended
- Change in materials: When the processed materials change and residues could interfere with the new application.
- Before resale: A thoroughly cleaned and documented system is easier to transfer to a new owner.
- After intensive use: When deposits have built up over the years.
- Repurposing: e.g., conversion to a spray booth or fume hood workstation.
How Decontamination Works
For heavily contaminated boxes, decontamination is carried out in several steps—depending on the type of residues, for example:
- Cleaning of biological residues (e.g., DNA/RNA).
- UV-C decontamination.
- Sanding the surfaces where necessary.
- Cleaning with isopropanol.
Afterward, the interior surfaces of the boxes and the airlocks are clean again. Piping is flushed and cleaned, and replaced if necessary; used filters are disposed of and—if desired—refilled.
Conversion & Restoration
In addition to basic cleaning, we also handle modifications—such as converting the unit into a spray booth or fume hood—and restore the system to top condition. We document the entire process, which is particularly important for resale. You can find details on the Refurbishment & Decontamination page. You can obtain fresh filter media and consumables through our accessories section.
Decontamination: Frequently Asked Questions
Can you convert a glove box into a fume hood or spray booth?
Yes. In addition to decontamination and interior cleaning, we also handle the conversion of the box for a new use.
Do you document the processing?
Yes. We document the process—this is especially helpful when planning a resale and ensures transparency.
Is the filter media also replaced during the treatment process?
Yes, upon request. Used filters are disposed of, the piping is flushed, and the molecular sieve, copper catalyst, and activated carbon can be refilled.
Have the glove box reconditioned?
Tell us about your system and its condition—we'll recommend the best course of action and provide you with a quote.
